How Secure is the Data you Input to ChatGPT?

Many individuals and organizations are not taking advantage of ChatGPT and similar tools because of privacy concerns. Here are a few considerations and the ChatGPT responses:

1.  Who owns inputs and outputs?

You retain all rights to the inputs you provide to ChatGPT and you own any output you rightfully receive from its services to the extent permitted by law. ChatGPT only receives rights in input and output necessary to provide you with its services, comply with applicable law, and enforce its policies.

2.  Does ChatGPT train its models on my business data?

By default, ChatGPT may use your interactions to improve its models, but you can opt out in Settings > Data Controls.

3.  Will information included in a prompt become generally available on the internet and/or to other ChatGPT users (for example, if you copy and paste text from a document directly into the prompt instead of attaching it)?

No, information included in a prompt WILL NOT become generally available on the internet or to other ChatGPT users. Specifically, data is not publicly shared: Your inputs are not posted or made available to other users or the public. As mentioned above, by default, ChatGPT may use your interactions to improve its models, but you can opt out in Settings > Data Controls.

4.  Will attachments that I add to prompts become generally available on the internet and/or to other ChatGPT users?

No, when you upload an attachment to a prompt in ChatGPT, it is not made publicly available on the internet. Your file remains private within the chat session and is only processed to generate a response for you. ChatGPT does not publish, share, or expose your uploaded files to others.

Just for an extra measure of security, you may want to delete chats when you are finished using the information. Also, the Enterprise version of ChatGPT offers even more robust levels of security.
